Why HeartFormed
Thirteen years into counseling and two decades in church leadership, I can tell you exactly how that theory held up: not well. People sat across from me nodding at good advice — meaning every word of their agreement — and went home to do the same thing they'd always done. Not from stupidity. Not, usually, from stubbornness. Something underneath the behavior was still deciding how they'd respond.
That's the conviction underneath everything HeartFormed does: heart change has to happen before life change holds. Most approaches — mine included, for longer than I'd like to admit — start at the level of behavior and hope it sticks. It rarely does, not for long, not down deep.
“Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
I'm a licensed professional counselor, and for years church members have trusted me with things they wouldn't say out loud anywhere else. I also spent twenty years serving as a deacon, watching the same pattern play out from the other side — in staff meetings, in marriages, in my own heart, more times than I'd like to admit.
That conviction became the backbone of a book I've spent the last few years writing. It's finished now, though not yet published — and everything you'll find here grows out of it.
If any of this sounds familiar, the fastest way to see where it's actually showing up in you is the HeartFormed Compass. It takes a few minutes, and it's free.
